Construction of the Vantaa Tramway will begin in the Aviapolis area on 1 December. During the winter, the work will mainly consist of earthworks and excavation within closed construction zones. The work will not affect, for example, airport operations. The tramway is scheduled to start operating in 2029.
CONSTRUCTION STAGES AND TIMELINE
Work is planned to begin on 1 December in the Plootukallio–Muura area. The first steps include removing trees where necessary and stripping surface soil. Excavation work will begin later in December.
Some stages of the work will generate noise, but at this point no noise-producing activities will take place near residential areas. Additional construction sites will open in 2026, and these will be communicated in advance.
During the winter, all work will take place within closed areas and will not have significant effects on local traffic. In the map below, the pedestrian and cycling route marked in red will be closed in December. The route on the south side of Tikkurilantie will be taken out of use, while the route on the north side will remain open as normal.

The southern route is being closed because a dedicated access road for the construction site will be built from the roundabout at the south end of Aviabulevardi. There will be some construction traffic in the area. Helsinki Airport and both Aviapolis train stations will remain fully operational throughout the tramway construction.
At the moment, preparatory works for the Vantaa Tramway are underway, and most of the track interruptions required for tunnel construction have already been carried out at Tikkurila Station. Actual tramway construction will begin in December.
